So I just finished watching the film “Dear White People” with my wife [3 years later 😂] and I must say the film was very witty in the way it tackled the subject of racism with courage and humor.

The narrative of the film does an exceptional job at making you laugh at the things that’ll make you cringe in reality. Credit to the writer Justin Simien for that along with the director and production team. #SALUTE

I definitely was in agreement many times throughout the film and its dialogue.. Like Dennis Haysbert’s (The Allstate Guy) scene where he says “The men who runs this world? You got no idea what they see when they see you. You are not going to be what they all think you are. You will not give them that satisfaction.” This definitely hit home with me because I definitely have to be mindful of the way I walk, talk, and act being that I dont want to be labled as the stereotypical “black guy” sucks right? I know lol but not trying to get all political and stuff so back to the review.

Being that I went to a PWI I felt like the movie shows lots of reminiscent activities. Also my wife went to the University of Florida, one of institutions that was portrayed in the film. We found a lot of the similarities that were portrayed to be very funny. It sparked a dialogue between my wife and I about our college days.

The film was good and well written, but it was also very drawn out. I think the film didn’t need 108 minutes to tell its story.

I loved the cliffhanger at the end of the movie which will set up its Netflix series that’s releasing on April 28th. I believe the series will dig a little bit deeper on the issues of race that the movie depicted and also go in detail on some parts of the story that were cut short.

Overall I give the film 🌟🌟🌟🌟
